Credit Pathways Program at Morse High School

Abigail Baker + Georgie Bunker, Founders

Abby Baker and Georgie Bunker started the Credit Pathways Program at Morse High School two years ago. The mission of the Credit Pathways Program is to provide students with an alternative educational setting that fosters personal growth, academic achievement, career exploration, and community engagement. Through interdisciplinary, project-based learning, CPP provides a learning environment that honors each individual’s needs, promotes growth and opportunity, and forges a path to graduation and future aspirations.

MIDCOAST YOUTH CENTER:

Tim Wylie (he/him) is the Associate Director of Midcoast Youth Center and Skate Park, supporting MYC’s program and support systems from the youth center itself, to the transitional housing as well as a number of programs supporting students in and out of the school environment. Tim is also the acting cohort manager for 4 groups of RSU1 students in MYC’s Waypoint program, a 6 year mentorship program where students explore topics from character building to college and career readiness.

Brightfield School for Place-Based Education - started in August 2023 - Brightfield inspires joy, curiosity and a love of learning through meaningful engagement with the natural world and local community. Students learn to become stewards of the land while practicing compassion for nature, themselves and each other. We prioritize academic excellence and social-emotional learning in small-sized, mixed-age classrooms. Students are outside on a daily basis enjoying the beauty of the Whiskeag Trails and visiting many Bath resources.

Katie Mathews is the 5/6 teacher who loves going on adventures with curious and fun-spirited kids. She has designed theme studies around sustainable clothing and Arctic Indignity today and Salt Marsh exploration. Her enthusiasm for outdoors and place-based education is contagious.

BATH AT PLAY: Dr. John Byram, an Audiologist and now stay-at-home father of 4, founded the nonprofit organization Bath at Play with Chris Zilich and Adam Keller in 2022. Bath at Play's founding came out of a desire to help facilitate and expand community play spaces in Bath and the surrounding Midcoast Maine region. We aim to empower Maine communities through dynamic and inclusive play by funding, establishing, and maintaining privately funded community play spaces for Maine’s current and future generations.
