I am a Residential Architectural Designer working towards licensure. I’m in the process of taking my exams (there are six total!!) so I can expand into Multi-Family and Senior Living work. Until those exams are under my belt, I’m working on a lot of renovations and some new construction for single-family residences. I’m also teaching a Housing Studio part-time to Architecture students at the University of Maine in Augusta.

How did you get started?

I knew I wanted to be an architect from the age of twelve. I walked into a friend's house and was blown away by the way the space made me feel. It was my first experience with architecture that was not “cookie-cutter” and actually took the way a user interacts with space into consideration. Since then, I’ve made it my life goal to provide spaces for people that create a positive psychological experience.

Passions + Hobbies 

I recently finished renovating my house, but am still keeping busy with small projects here and there. When I’m not working on a side project, I’m usually out in the woods with my dog or going for a run or bike ride.

I am a west coaster out here on the east enjoying all the historic architecture this side of the country has to offer.

 I like being able to network with others. It’s also really nice to get out of the house and see some friendly faces, instead of walking the dog five times a day.

I am an attorney for a law firm based in Washington, DC (not admitted to work in Maine). My law firm primarily handles federal cases, typically appeals from complex criminal or civil cases. I also do some constitutional litigation and teach at the George Washington University Law School. In addition, I focus my bar exam tutoring towards individuals who failed the first time and are looking to pass on their second or third attempt.

How did you get started?

In law school, I was fortunate to be able to argue our Moot Court in front of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and two other distinguished judges. That experience gave me an itch to enter appellate practice. After law school, I clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. And after clerking, I immediately started a federal appellate practice.

Passions + Hobbies 

I spend most of my time with my family – cooking, exploring the outdoors, or traveling.

I have been to all 50 states, more than 50 countries, and a majority of the US National Parks.

Why do you use Union + Co?

My office is in Washington, but I live in Maine, so I like to come to the space when I need a change of scenery from my home office. (Note: I am not a Maine attorney. I just live here! I am admitted to practice in DC, Vermont, and numerous federal courts, but I do not represent clients locally.)

I work for Altus Group, a publicly traded global company that provides asset and fund intelligence for commercial real estate. If you are familiar with CRE, you may have encountered Argus Enterprise, our modeling software used by 90% of the funds in the sector; we also provide valuation management services for thousands of real estate investment funds and trusts. My specific role is to lead the team that serves as the intersection between our data science group and our clients, to help clients leverage our machine learning models’ output to increase returns while mitigating risk.  I’ve worked with data and analytics in the community and economic development realm for twenty years, and I love what I do.  I’m also a graduate student at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute.

I snowboard, lift weights, and play double bass, but not at the same time.

I worked at LL Bean for fun one year and got to be one of the elves working with Santa Claus and the reindeer!

Why do you use Union + Co?

After I wound down my volunteer commitments when I started with Altus Group, I found that I missed that regular interaction with other businesspeople.  I had been considering moving into this gorgeous space that Sean and Mandy created and what finally prompted me to come to Union & Co was a video podcast interview.   I needed a professional background with sound management, and while I have an office at home, I also have a dog.  I’m thrilled to have made the move; the combination of enhanced productivity and personal connection has been wonderful.

I work in communications and investor relations for a biotech, helping the public (from patients to the media to investors and analysts) understand our company’s science and business. My day to day involves everything from writing press releases to pitching media to working on website design to planning internal events for company culture building.

My company, Scholar Rock, does research on a family of proteins (called the TGF beta superfamily) that’s involved in a lot of different diseases. Some of the ones we’re focused on developing treatments for are spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and other neuromuscular diseases, obesity, and cancer. 

How did you get started? 

I was trained as a biologist and got my PhD in ecology and evolution--but I felt more drawn to science communication and writing than to starting my own lab and continuing on the research path. I was introduced to medical and scientific communications in the healthcare and biopharma context and went from there! 

Passions + Hobbies 

Spending time with my husband Tim and our dogs Rocky and Charlie, visiting family and friends, gardening, cooking, reading, swimming, exploring Maine!

I studied plant-pollinator networks for my dissertation research, so I have a deep appreciation for native bees :)
